Minneapolis, Minnesota – August 27, 2025 – What a nightmare this morning at Annunciation Catholic School in south Minneapolis. Two children lost their lives, and at least 17 others got hurt—mostly kids—in a sh0:oting that happened right during morning Mass. The shooter ended up de@d too, making it three deaths in total, but thankfully, c0ps say there’s no more danger out there.
It all went down at the school on West 54th Street, just east of Lyndale Avenue. The kids who di:ed were 8 and 10 years old, and a bunch more, including a couple in really bad shape, were rushed to hospitals around the area. Hennepin County Medical Center alone took in five of those injured kids. Reports are saying up to 20 people were hit in some way, with wounds from scrapes to life-threatening stuff.
Governor Tim Walz jumped on X to confirm what happened, saying he’d gotten the rundown and that state folks from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Patrol were helping out on the ground. “I’m praying for our kids and teachers—it’s their first week back, and now this awful violence ruins everything,” he posted. Mayor Jacob Frey chimed in too, basically saying enough with just “thoughts and prayers”—these kids were actually praying when the shots started flying.
Police got there fast after calls about an active sh0:oter came in. The Minneapolis PD said they had the guy “contained” pretty quick, and later confirmed he was de@d—maybe from his own gu:n, but they’re not totally sure yet. Some folks are saying officers might have taken him out, but we’ll have to wait for the official word. The FBI, ATF, and state teams piled in, and by mid-morning, they declared the place safe.
One witness talked about hearing maybe 50 sh0ts popping off over a few minutes—it must have been pure chaos. And this being the first week of school just makes it all the more heartbreaking for everyone involved—the students, teachers, parents. No one’s spilling on a motive yet, and the cops are still digging in, treating the whole spot like a crime scene.
This is just another sad mark on America’s ongoing gu:n vi0lence mess, sparking outrage and demands for real change. Emergency crews are still around, helping out however they can. More info should come out soon from the pressers they’re holding.
