“The fascinating and touching story of Lampo, the railway dog”
Lampo, was a mixed breed puppy with a German Shepherd appearance, became famous in the 1950s in Italy for his extraordinary ability to travel alone on trains and always return to his home.
Lampo lived in a train station in Campiglia Marittima next to a station warden who adopted him. One day, the puppy decided to hop on a train and, to everyone’s surprise, he not only traveled independently, but he knew when and where to get off to return!
He made many trips to nearby cities and would always find his way back to the station, becoming a favorite among passengers and railroad workers.
The most amazing thing is that Lampo seemed to understand train timetables perfectly and never failed to get on the correct one. It’s said that it even helped passengers orient themselves.
Today, Lampo is remembered with a statue at Campiglia Marittima station, honoring his incredible traveler spirit and intelligence.
Their story has touched hearts for generations and remains a symbol of the special connection between humans and animals ❤️
