The ongoing feud within the British royal family is significantly affecting King Charles III’s relationship with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Following the passing of their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, the two children received their royal titles, but their grandfather has struggled to form a bond with them.
While King Charles regularly interacts with Prince William’s children, he has yet to spend time with Harry’s offspring. According to reports from the Mirror, Charles has expressed interest in visiting Harry and his family in the United States “at some time in the future.”
Royal expert Tom Quinn shared insights with the publication, noting, “If a visit goes ahead, it’s clear he would want to spend time with his youngest son and his grandchildren. However, significant planning is required before that can happen.”
Quinn added that a discreet private visit to California is certainly a possibility. “He is desperate to see them and dislikes the thought that Archie and Lili may not remember him as the warm, friendly grandfather he wishes to be.”
The potential for King Charles to meet Archie and Lilibet in Britain remains uncertain, especially considering Meghan Markle’s strong feelings about security issues related to their visits. After stepping down from royal duties, Harry and Meghan were denied royal security in the UK, which is taxpayer-funded, due to their status as non-working royals.
Lilibet Diana recently celebrated her third birthday on June 4th at the family’s Montecito home, with notable attendees like Orlando Bloom, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Oprah Winfrey. However, no members of the British royal family were present to join the festivities. Despite his absence, King Charles sent birthday wishes and a gift to his granddaughter, as reported by the Mirror.
“King Charles had no intention of ignoring Lilibet’s birthday; he sent a thoughtful gift along with a message,” Quinn explained.
Furthermore, Quinn revealed that the King has a more significant gift planned for Lilibet, which he intends to present once the family feud is resolved. “He gave Prince George a beautifully crafted wooden swing with his name carved on it, and something similar is in mind for Lilibet, but not until the family dynamics improve,” he noted.
The absence of royal family members at Lilibet’s birthday was attributed to the lack of invitations, as clarified by a friend of Harry’s. “Harry knew they wouldn’t come anyway and likely wouldn’t have wanted them there. However, he feels sad that Archie and Lilibet cannot establish any relationship with their cousins while this feud continues,” the friend shared.
Many hope for a resolution to the royal rift in the near future…
