When I was in 5th grade, I was struggling with math. The numbers and formulas felt like a foreign language, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t keep up. I was convinced I’d never understand it, and I thought maybe I was just hopeless at it.
But then there was Mrs. Lopez. My math teacher saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. Instead of writing me off as a lost cause, she made a promise: “I won’t let you give up.”
Every day after school, she stayed with me, explaining problems in ways I could understand. She was patient, persistent, and kind, even when I was ready to quit.
As the weeks went by, something started to click. Slowly, I began to get it. By the end of the year, not only did I pass math, I actually started to enjoy it.
That experience didn’t just help me in math—it helped me in life. It showed me the power of persistence, belief, and a little kindness. Because of Mrs. Lopez, I’m now an engineer, solving complex problems for a living.
She believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself, and that made all the difference.
So, who’s the person who changed your life with their patience or kindness? Think about them for a moment, and maybe, just maybe, let them know they deserve the recognition. Their belief in you could be the reason you’re where you are today.
