Over the weekend, my sweet 6-year-old son picked me a dandelion for my hair, and I couldn’t help but get emotional. The thought hit me—one day, he might not pick dandelions for me anymore. My 16-year-old daughter saw me upset and asked what was wrong. When I told her, she went off by herself for a while. A few minutes later, she returned with a beautiful crown of dandelions and promised she’d pick me flowers for the rest of my life.
What makes this even more special is that we adopted her when she was 15, so I missed out on so many of her childhood moments, including picking flowers. But this weekend, we created a new memory together, and her small act of kindness meant the world to me. It’s moments like this that I’ll hold onto forever.
