The curse of M.U has been lifted

After a long period of effort to fill the void left in the midfield by Michael Carrick, the answer for Man United surprisingly comes from an 18-year-old player they have nurtured.

After a prolonged effort to address a very particular issue at Man United in a way only they could, it turns out that the solution comes from an 18-year-old player they’ve nurtured.

David Moyes brought in Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata; Louis van Gaal placed trust in Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger; Jose Mourinho shattered transfer records with Paul Pogba, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer experimented with McFred – Man United tried them all. But like a curse, all encountered issues, from professional to mental aspects, from form to age.

Mainoo doesn’t face any pressure at all.

However, Kobbie Mainoo is now dispelling that curse with his outstanding performances since his debut. The latest player in the line of overrated young talents, Mainoo joined Man United at the age of 9 and seems destined for greatness at almost every age level in both the club and national team.

Erik ten Hag has often been questioned for not integrating this 18-year-old player sooner after his first-team debut against Charlton in the League Cup. Mainoo was then given opportunities in the early stages of the season and performed exceptionally well. Despite unfortunate injuries that kept him sidelined until November, Mainoo came back strong.

Mainoo doesn’t seem to feel any pressure. He is an exceptional player – and his Premier League debut against Everton is the clearest evidence. Mainoo started when Man United visited Merseyside to face Liverpool after a humiliating 0-7 defeat last season. He showed he could do it all, playing both stylish and gritty football, contributing significantly to a goalless draw at Anfield. Mainoo extinguished all the heat with a convincing performance, working hard off the ball and displaying creativity and finesse with precise passes and skillful ball touches.

Mainoo is a valuable talent for Man United.

Mainoo is tasked with doing the job of three players at once. His performance resembles that of a player in a 5-a-side team – defending, developing the ball, and contributing to the attack. He also has moments that make you applaud in admiration.

A bit of hesitation from Alejandro Garnacho and a block from Trent Alexander-Arnold robbed Mainoo of a perfect assist, with a delicate touch and a pass as accurate as Paul Scholes in his prime. In just three Premier League matches, he has established himself as an outstanding and crucial player in Ten Hag’s lineup.

Man United‘s machine isn’t running smoothly due to injuries and inconsistency among existing players, but that’s also evidence of how promising Mainoo is. He could explode even more if placed in a system shaped at Old Trafford.
