There is nothing quite like a puzzle when it seems to be stumping just about everybody who tries it. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about a brainteaser or a picture puzzle, it is a challenge that many of us appreciate taking. With this particular puzzle, there really isn’t any secret to it but the fact of the matter is, most people who are trying to do it are getting it wrong.
The real secret lies in the fact that most people have forgotten the majority of what they learned in basic arithmetic. Most of us tend to work from left to right but is that always the proper way to do it? That may also be the reason why most people are getting it wrong, because you need to remember the things that you learned back when you were in junior high school.
Take a little bit of time to see if you can get the answer right, then scroll down and check on the next page to confirm.
The answer is 30! In order to solve this question, you need to remember the order in which you do this type of equation. Going by the acronym PEMDAS (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction), you would have to do the multiplication first and then do the addition.
Another way to look at it is like this:
1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 11 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 11 + (1 x 0) + 1
= 29 + 0 + 1
