Olympique Marseille announced on their homepage that they have successfully borrowed the Cameroon international.
Olympique Marseille recently announced that they have completed the loan deal for Jean Onana with with a buyout option at the end of the season.
Last season, the midfielder was a member of Lens which finished in second place in the Ligue 1 standings. However, the move from Les Sang et Or to Besiktas in the summer did not continue to bring success for the 24-year-old.
The former Lens star struggled to adapt to life in Türkiye and failed to get a starting spot. He only played 188 minutes of football for his new club.
Marseille is looking for a midfielder due to their captain Valentin Rongier being injured long-term and also having many key players absent because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Onana was not Marseille’s first choice, when the club initially targeted Lucien Agoume, but when the transfer on the collapse, Les Phoceens turned to the Cameroon international.
The fact that the country’s national team did not select Onana for the upcoming tournament helped boost his loan deal, as the midfielder could play for Marseille immediately.
