How to make the right choices in life? Life is not easy for any of us. But We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. Life presents many choices, the choices we make determine our future. Some are easy, others are not…BUT When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.
Don’t let stress help you to make choices
“If you focus on success, you’ll have stress. But if you pursue excellence, success will be guaranteed.”–Deepak Chopra
It’s easy to feel stressed out and anxious when you’re facing a tough choice. Stress is real, but we always have a choice–we can let it consume us or we learn to control it.
“You can’t always control what goes on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.”–Wayne Dyer
“Remember that stress doesn’t come from what’s going on in your life. It comes from your thoughts about what’s going on in your life.”–Andrew J. Bernstein
“Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they’ve started.”–David Allen
“Doing something that is productive is a great way to alleviate emotional stress. Get your mind doing something that is productive.”–Ziggy Marley
You might tend to rush your decisions without thinking them through, or you avoid making a decision at all because the stress has put you off. If you’re feeling anxious about a decision, try to manage your stress so that it doesn’t cloud your thinking.
In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers. Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one.
Give yourself some time
It’s hard to think clearly under pressure, and sometimes your first idea isn’t always your best one. Give yourself the chance to sit on a problem for a while so that you can process your options and feel confident about the course of action you choose. Sometimes we all need a little encouragement that being ourselves is the best thing we can be.
“When you are in your own lane there is no traffic.” —Ashley France
“Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else.” —Judy Garland
“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.” —Oscar Wilde
“Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own thing and work hard. The right people—the ones who really belong in your life—will come to you, and stay.” —Will Smith
Think about your goals and values.
It’s important to be true to ourselves and what we value in life. Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination. When you factor into a decision the things that are important to you, the best option might become obvious.
“People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.” — Earl Nightingale
“Goals are dreams with deadlines.” ― Diana Scharf
“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” — Jimmy Dean
“If a goal is worth having, it’s worth blocking out the time in your day-to-day life necessary to achieve it.” — Jill Koenig
“If you’re bored with life — you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things — you don’t have enough goals.” — Lou Holtz
Consider all the possibilities.
Making a decision can result in several different outcomes and not all of them may be obvious. When considering each option, don’t just list the positives and negatives; write down any likely consequences. Even if you are not looking at things the wrong way, simply looking at things a different way can bring new possibilities to your attention.
“Anything is possible once you believe you are worthy of achieving it. ” — Jason Pockrandt
“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible. ” — St. Francis of Assisi
“Give yourself permission to believe in possibilities. It truly is the cornerstone of success. And it’s a powerful antidote to those who are trying to push us in the direction of negativity and fear.” — Leeza Gibbons
Talk it out to get guidance
Advice is defined as “guidance or recommendations offered with regard to prudent future action.” It can be helpful to get another person’s perspective on your issue, particularly if they’ve faced a similar decision in their own life.
“All of us, at certain moments of our lives, need to take advice and to receive help from other people.” — Alexis Carrel
“Advice is like snow – the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind.” — Samuel Taylor Coleridge
“I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.” — Gilbert K. Chesterton
Anyway, remember that Nobody can give you wiser advice than yourself. The best advice I’ve received is to be yourself. Listen to advice, but follow your heart.
Rethink your options.
If you’re up against a lot of pressure over a decision, or there are some new factors to consider, look over your options again. The hardest decisions in life are not between good and bad or right and wrong, but between two goods or two rights.
You might decide that your original decision is still the best one, but give yourself the option of changing course. If a decision no longer feels right for you, go through these steps again to figure out a better solution.
“When we find inspiration, we need to take action for ourselves and for our communities. Even if it means making a hard choice, or cutting out something and leaving it in your past.” – Aron Ralston
“And we have complete control over our own attitude. We are the ones who decide how we feel, how we look at things, how we react.” – Catherine Pulsifer
“You came empty on earth, why overloaded now, were all your choices absolutely correct, it is never too late to reconsider them?” – William Ngwako Maphoto
And in life, it is all about choices we make. And how the direction of our lives comes down to the choices we choose. Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision. The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.
