Reece James suffered another injury as he limped off the field in the 26th minute during the match between Chelsea and Everton on Sunday. The captain of The Blues has been unlucky with injuries over the past 12 months and may face a new phase in the treatment room after this setback at Goodison Park.

James played his fifth consecutive Premier League match since being declared fit to return in October, but it seems that his hamstring injury became more severe, forcing him to leave the field. Overall, he has only played a total of 389 minutes in the Premier League this season after 8 matches.

In addition to James, Chelsea’s 0-2 defeat to Everton also saw goalkeeper Robert Sanchez get injured and had to leave the field in the 84th minute, making way for Djordje Petrovic, who experienced the Premier League atmosphere for the first time. Furthermore, defender Marc Cucurella also had to leave the field, with Ian Maatsen coming on as his replacement.

Regarding the situation of the Spanish duo, manager Pochettino said: “Reece felt something in his Achilles tendon. He is injured, but we don’t know how serious it is.”

Talking about the condition of the Spanish pair, Pochettino said: “Robert Sanchez had a problem with his knee in the match against Man United. He felt something in the second half, which is why he asked for a change. We have to hope it’s not a big issue.

The same thing happened with Marc Cucurella, who suffered an ankle sprain. We hope that these issues are not significant. These are situations that we have had to deal with since the start of the season, and it’s becoming overwhelming for a young team like ours to build something solid.”

With the defeat against Everton last night, Chelsea has a dismal record, securing only 39 points in 39 matches in the Premier League in 2023. In this season, with 19 points after 16 rounds, The Blues have dropped to 12th place in the standings.
